How I Made My Own DIY Pressed-Flower Pumpkin (And You Can Too!)

Hey beautiful souls! 🌻

Last weekend, as the first autumn leaves began to drop and the faint aroma of pumpkin spice lattes wafted through the air, I felt that undeniable urge. You know the one: to craft something unique, beautiful, and oh-so-autumnal. That’s when it hit me: why not marry my love for flowers with the season’s iconic fruit? Thus was born the idea of the Pressed-Flower Pumpkin. And guess what? You can create your very own too, and here’s how.

What You'll Need:

  1. A pumpkin (real or faux, depending on your preference)
  2. Pressed flowers (use those you've collected and pressed yourself or buy some from craft stores)
  3. Mod Podge (or a similar decoupage medium)
  4. A paintbrush
  5. Clear sealant spray (optional)

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Choose Your Pumpkin:
I went with a faux white pumpkin because it provides a lovely canvas for the colorful flowers and can be reused year after year. But feel free to get creative! Maybe a classic orange or a moody green? Your choice!

2. Prepare Your Pressed Flowers:
If you're pressing fresh flowers, place them between the pages of a heavy book for a week. If you’re impatient like me, grab some pre-pressed ones from your local craft store.

3. Design Your Layout:
Before committing with glue, lay out your pressed flowers on the pumpkin to get a feel for your design. I found it therapeutic to play around, creating a whimsical cascade of flowers down one side.

4. Get Gluing:
Using your paintbrush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the back of a pressed flower and gently press it onto the pumpkin. Smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with your fingers, being delicate to not tear the flower.

5. Seal the Deal:
After you've applied all your flowers and they're dry, paint a thin layer of Mod Podge over the entire design to seal it. This gives it a lovely finish and ensures the flowers stay in place.

6. Optional: Extra Protection:
For added longevity, especially if you’re using a real pumpkin and want it to last the entire season, spray a light coat of clear sealant over the entire pumpkin.

And voilà! Your DIY Pressed-Flower Pumpkin is ready! 🎃💐

The result is truly a piece of art. It’s a subtle blend of delicate blooms and autumn vibes that’ll have everyone talking. I've placed mine on the porch and it's been getting ALL the compliments. So, are you ready to embrace the fusion of summer memories and autumn coziness? I'd LOVE to see your creations, so tag me in your pictures or use #PressedFlowerPumpkin.

Happy crafting and here's to making this autumn the most beautiful one yet!
